Brief

A designer partner and I were invited by Olive (Holistic Food Scanner) to propose a brand identity refresh and product redesign. In a 1–2 week sprint, we built a concise design system and UX improvements that extend the existing experience for a 350,000+ user base.

Client work — a redesign proposal, well-received and intended to layer onto their live app, not replace it.

My Role

Secondary Research (competitors), designing UI screens for onboarding and profile pages. Animating micro-interactions.

Tools Used

Cavalry App, Figma

Challenge

Revamping Olive's mobile app user interface — fast.

Approach

Current Olive app

  • is good enough
  • works
  • converts
  • has users

Our Goal

  • Go beyond those things
  • Create something greater than the app
  • Make people care about it

Research

Competitor analysis

Did desktop in-depth research on what kind of services already exist in the food tracker industry. How do other apps tackle the same design problems?

Conclusion

Presented a rapid 1–2 week revamp to the client (Olive – Food Scanner App) which was well received. The redesign system is now being considered for incremental integration.

Learning Outcome

Learned to think more critically and quickly make decisions focusing less on research and the typical design process. This was the first time doing a project with such a short deadline — a genuinely useful experience in constraint-led design.
